Previously on June 19, the Korean government unveiled their key strategy to become one of the “four major global content powers” by 2027.
In accordance with such a strategy, Jeon Byeong-geuk, Korea’s 1st Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, “We will discover the second ‘Parasite’ through the industrialization of the film market. We will discover the next BTS by supporting the entire musician development cycle for capable small and medium-sized agencies.”
As this article was spread, fans of BTS and the public alike seemed to take issue with the term “the next BTS”, prompting a series of criticism.
In particular, BTS fans pointed out that BTS themselves mentioned that there will be no “next BTS”.
Meanwhile, others believed that the term’s usage is disrespectful to other active K-pop artists, as it is basically telling them that they failed to reach the “BTS standard” that the government desires.
All in all, people seem to agree that BTS is a unique entity, and government officials should stop abusing the group’s name for their flowery speech.
